U12 Reports

7 July – U12 v Southwater

East Grinstead concluded their final league game against Southwater with a nail biting win in the last over. EGCC’s policy of giving every player a bowl resulted in four expensive overs which let the opposition back into the game. With determination in the field and an outstanding catch on the square leg boundary to dismiss one of their established batsmen, the final two overs were high octane! Tight bowling by Freddie O and Daniel B keeping the run rate down putting pressure on the batting side to take chances resulting in a run out for the final wicket chasing down 114, Southwater ended their innings on 112 all out.

EGCC Batting: Akash A – 30 retired, Daniel B – 24 not out
EGCC Bowing: Daniel B – 1 for 8 off 4, Freddie O – 2 for 8 off 4, Lewis H – 1 for 5 off 2.

1 June – U12 v Lingfield

This was an excellent setting for a game of cricket on a fine sunny Saturday morning. EGCC won the toss and put the opposition into bat.

Both Lingfield openers putting a 50 partnership keeping a steady 5 an over run rate. East Grinstead bowlers all had accurate spells, bowling good line and length.

During the twenty overs all East Grinstead players bowled amazingly enough there were only eight extras during the innings reflecting on how Lingfield had to bat and work for their total of 118.

Lingfield had the advantage of being stronger physically this was to prove the difference between the two sides with East Grinstead just falling 13 runs short of the total set.

18 May – U12 v Horsham

East Grinstead U12 proved to be too strong for old rivals Horsham at Fonthill this Saturday morning. EG lost the toss and Horsham elected to bat on a drying track and outfield, they were not prepared for a bowling attack which would skittle them out or 25 in 8.2 overs.

EG learning from last weeks defeat set an attacking field with positioned fielders to save the 4’s. Early fall of wickets with accurate swing bowling from Daniel Burton and Freddie Oakden ripping through Horsham’s top order, first change also bringing success bowling out the middle and tail Horsham order for 25 off 8.2 overs.

Highlights were:
Daniel Burton 2 overs for 2 wickets for 7
Freddie Oakden 2 overs for 3 wickets for 4
Nick Cannell 2 overs for 1 wickets for 4
Akash Ashok 2 overs for 1 wickets for 3
Finn Lawrence 0.2 overs for 1 wicket for 0

Daniel Burton, Freddie Oakden, Arthur Whyman chased down the total in 5.3 overs.
