Lingfield Cricket Club U10 v EGCC U10 Saturday 5 May 2018
The weather improvement was thankfully just in time to allow this match to be played on an artificial pitch at Lingfield. All credit to the groundsman to allow the match to take place. The outfield that had been underwater recently was, of course, very slow. For under10 players it made scoring runs far more difficult than usual. East Grinstead had the benefit of winning the toss and asking Lingfield to bat, with the early dew slowing down the ball even more. All the East Grinstead bowlers were bowling straight enough and wickets fell at regular intervals. The score did improve as the outfield dried. East Grinstead were confident that the moderate Lingfield score of 216 could be achieved and that turned out to be the case as shots that may have held up earlier, began to cross the boundary . All the East Grinstead batsmen needed to do was ensure they did not lose too many wickets which they managed in spite of some good bowling performances from Lingfield. The main feature was the very competent field placing of both captains who both deserved credit for the way their teams were set out and fielded.
