After last week’s success we came down to earth with a bump last night at Horsham. Despite an excellent rebuild partnership between Will Goodwin (30) and Ryan (35 retired) and a late flurry from Harry Hainge and Ned, we were always playing catch up with the bat. To be fair most of the Horsham bowlers were very accurate and, most importantly, bowled to a well set field. A final score of 112 was more than had looked likely and was a reasonable total to try to defend.
Unfortunately our bowling was nowhere near as disciplined as our opponents and the Horsham batters were able to wait and punish the bad ball each over and pick up singles almost at will. They eventually hit the winning runs for the loss of just 2 wickets in the 16th over.
Two key lessons –
1. Our bowling needs to be far more disciplined and consistent which will allow us to set a field to pressurise the batsmen.
2. Our fielding needs to improve. Far too many misfields, allowing singles and one’s to become two’s.
Thanks to Steve Hainge for scoring, Richard Goodwin for collecting money and Andy for transporting players.
No game next week as it’s half term but please mark availability for future games on play cricket or e-mail me or Andy.
