East Grinstead Cricket Club, home of the 2017 Sussex Premier League Champions, has seen another year of first class cricket. We have had a successful season with both the First and Second teams which are through to their third respective T20 Cup finals at the County Ground, Hove.
The Fourth XI won its league this season with its captain, Simon C, guiding a predominately fathers’ and sons’ side to victory!
The Second XI team’s success in the Sussex Cricket T20 League this season has been partly due to the emergence of two outstanding junior players. Playing in its semi-final against an experienced Ifield, EGCC was rescued in its run chase by 17 year old Morgan L-A, who scored a classy 30 and 15 year old Zach R whose 44 not out, sealed a seemingly unlikely victory.
Our juniors are able to progress through our enhanced coaching structure which allows home-grown talent a sensible transition into the First XIs of the future, or to just enjoy whatever level of the game they wish to play.
To aid this task, the club has announced the revival of the East Grinstead Cricket Academy, which will run from January through to April and will concentrate on specific technical instruction, with master classes in all the disciplines of the game as well as allowing more time for batsmen to develop shots around the wicket or to allow a bowler to understand just how better to build pressure during a spell. The emphasis is on enjoyment and the more a player can master his or her individual role in a team context, the greater enjoyment can be got from their own and their team mates’ performances.
East Grinstead continues to be the premier club in Sussex and we are looking forward to the next season!
