EGCC Junior Cricket Section
For the protection of junior players, the coaches, administrators, umpires and other helpers who are regularly in contact with junior players are required to be cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau.
Safety is of the essence, and cricket, though not being a direct contact sport, can be potentially dangerous if certain aspects are not treated seriously. East Grinstead Cricket Club strictly complies and endorses the English Cricket Board directives which are essential to the well-being of Junior players. The East Grinstead Cricket Club is a "focus" club as defined by the ECB and we have been awarded “Clubmark Accreditation”. This is an extensive programme of improvement and assessment, and regular reviews give parents confidence that the club is running to the highest standards.
On the junior playing front in 2008 our teams performed well in the league and the U11, U13 and U15 contested in the league playoff finals with the U13 winning the North & Mid Sussex league, to retain their trophy. The U14 were third in the IDentilam league and the U16 won their group in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival with several good performances, and were only denied a cup final place on runs/wickets calculations.
In 2009 we hope to compete with equal resolve, but the emphasis is always on the development of players for the progression to District & County junior squads where we have several representatives, and ultimately to the men’s league teams. Our policies have provided a steady stream of gifted players right through the club.
